The "Big Mac" was a big idea, helping to propel the growth and success of McDonald's franchises throughout the world. Introduced in 1968, the Big Mac sandwich was the brainchild of Jim Delligatti, one of Ray Kroc's earliest franchisees, who by the late 1960s operated a dozen stores in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. Now this major milestone in McDonald's history is celebrated with a specially decorated die-cast model of another classic, which came out the same year as the Big Mac: the 1968 VW Beetle Convertible. But McDonald's burgers and VW Beetle have something else in common as well: both were developed with the idea of making a desirable product affordable to virtually everyone. McDonald's was famous for its 15c burgers and Volkswagen's beetle was intended to be an economical "people's car." Proposed in 1934 by automotive legend Ferdinand Porsche, the "car of the masses" was created in Porsche's private workshop. It came to fruition in 1938 and was dubbed the "Beetle" by the New York Times. Now the fun and economical '68 convertible is recaptured in a die-cast model boldly painted in a three-colour scheme and decorated with vintage McDonald's graphics. from the distinctive wheels to the interior detailing, your model is crafted to achieve the utmost in authenticity.
